Saving Our Youth- Who Is Really Responsible?

">
from warfa210

This child is like a sheep being led to the slaughter house. In a few years, if proper intervention is not made, this young boy will end up as another statistic- a young black male doomed to spend the gift of life in prison. What is proper intervention? Beating him won't change the fact that he has poor impulse control- it will only harden him and teach him that he is bad. He said himself that he likes doing bad things.

The problem is a generational one of poor parenting and a lack of morals. Where are the parents that conceived this child? Why does the grandmother have guardianship?

Barack is right when he says that change is needed from the bottom up. America is losing a generation of young people because of our rebellious hearts. Wrong is becoming right as long as you have the money to afford a good attorney.

If we are so advanced as a country, why do we have such high rates of teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, juvenile delinquency, obesity, depression, high blood pressure, cholesterol, etc?

The Bible says to train up a child in the way that he should go and when he is old, he will not depart. What's happened to the Judeo-Christian values this country was founded on? Perhaps we need to revisit them.

The 20 Worst Foods in America #11

The U.S. food industry has declared war on your waistline. Here's how to disarm its weapons of mass inflation
By: Matt Goulding

11. Worst Steak
Lonestar 20 oz T-bone
1,540 calories
124 g fat

Add a baked potato and Lonestar's Signature Lettuce Wedge, and this is a 2,700-calorie blowout. Make the Cut: Stick to fillets and sirloins in steakhouses—they're the two leanest cuts of beef.

Hi guys,

It's time to exercise control over our lives by carefully choosing what we take not only into our mouths, but our minds. Eating nowadays can not be a casual decision. In the past we could pick fruit from a tree and not worry about the health care implications. Today we practically need a dictionary to decipher the contents of a product.

If we want to live a long and quality life if is incumbent upon us to be more discerning. Advertisers spend millions of dollars annually trying to figure out how they can package a food product so that we will buy it. We have to be wise and not buy food that initially appeals to our senses, but later causes us pain, high medical bills and poor health.

One of the best gifts we can pass on to our offspring is the ability to read, comprehend, decipher and make appropriate decisions based on that analysis that promote life. Let's empower the next generation to use these life skills so that they can leave a footprint that enhances the quality of life for generations yet unborn. When we collectively do this, then we truly will be Winners at life.

Reduce Your Risk Of Cancer By Changing Your Diet

Our Diet Must Change To Cut Cancer Risk, Experts Urge
ScienceDaily (Nov. 2, 2007) — A new report published recently by the World Cancer Research Fund will show how much our diet needs to change if we are to reduce the risk of cancer.

In the British Medical Journal, Professor Tim Key from the Cancer Research UK unit at the University of Oxford discusses what would be needed to achieve the report's goals.

The report concludes that obesity increases the risk of cancer of the oesophagus, colorectum, pancreas, breast, endometrium, and kidney. Its goal is for the average body mass index of the population to be between 21 and 23.

Yet, mean body mass index in adults in the UK is now about 27 and has not fallen into the target range since the 1940s, says Professor Key. Enormous efforts by individuals, society, and government will therefore be needed to reverse the current trend.

The report also shows that alcohol increases the risk of cancers of the mouth, pharynx, larynx, oesophagus, colorectum, and breast and also causes cirrhosis, which predisposes to liver cancer. It recommends much lower drinking limits than currently advised in Britain, so a substantial shift in drinking habits would be needed to achieve these goals.

Evidence for a protective effect of fruit and vegetables is less convincing. Nevertheless, the report recommends that people should eat at least five portions of vegetables and fruits each day.

To meet this individual recommendation, the average consumption in the population would need to be about 7.5 portions a day. The average consumption in Britain is currently about three portions a day, says Professor Key, so the consumption of fruit and vegetables would need to be more than doubled.

The major new conclusion in the report is that red and processed meat convincingly cause colorectal cancer. This is based on results from several studies showing that, on average, people who ate the most red or processed meat had about a 30% increased risk compared with those who ate the least. The report therefore recommends that the average intake of red and processed meat in the population should be no more than 300g each week.

In most regions of the world, total meat consumption is well above this goal. In Britain, the current mean intake is about 970g a week in men and about 550g a week in women, so reaching this goal would require a large reduction in meat consumption.

The report identified several foods and nutrients for which some evidence exists of a beneficial effect on the risk of cancer. For example, foods rich in folate may reduce the risk for cancer of the pancreas, and diets rich in calcium may reduce the risk for colorectal cancer.

Professor Key believes that, while the effects of obesity and excessive alcohol consumption are clear, the goal for intake of fruit and vegetables has financial and environmental implications and requires careful consideration.

It may be better to concentrate efforts on increasing the consumption of plant foods such as cereals and beans, which supply energy and protein and can therefore partially replace meat, he concludes.

These wider questions will be dealt with in the WCRF's policy report, due to be published next year.

Hi Guys,
I want to pass on this research concerning the relation between diet and cancer. Maybe it's me, but it seems like within the past four decades there has been a significant increase in the occurrence of cancer. I haven't personally done any research, I'm just going by anecdotes and news reports.

Either way, if it is factual or whether it's just this information age that allows us to have world wide access to current events, it's important that we pay attention and change our lifestyle. Ignorance is not bliss when your life is jeopardized by a serious health challenge.

Let's govern our food choices and control our destiny by eating wisely so that we can truly be Winners at life!

An Interview With Rick Warren Author Of The Purpose Driven Life

Hi guys,
I want to share with you a candid interview with Rick Warren, the author of the "PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE" that was sent to me by a reader named Chandra. Rick Warren reflects on his wife’s bout with cancer and his response to his new "wealth" from the book sales. Let’s pray and declare healing in the name of Jesus for Mrs. Warren and comfort and strength for her husband who has given so much to others. The Word says that there “is nothing too hard for God and that with God all things are possible!”

Stay Blessed!
Joyce

In the interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren, author and pastor of Saddleback Church in California, Rick said:

People ask me, What is the purpose of life? And I respond: In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven.

One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body-- but not the end of me.

I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity. This is the warm-up act - the dress rehearsal. God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity.

We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn't going to make sense.

Life is a series of problems: Either you are in one now, you're just coming out of one, or you're getting ready to go into another one.

The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort.

God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy.

We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that's not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character, in Christ likeness.

This past year has been the greatest year of my life but also the toughest, with my wife, Kay, getting cancer.

I used to think that life was hills and valleys - you go through a dark time, then you go to the mountaintop, back and forth. I don't believe that anymore.

Rather than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it's kind of like two rails on a railroad track, and at all times you have something good and something bad in your life.

No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on.

And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for.

You can focus on your purposes, or you can focus on your problems.

If you focus on your problems, you're going into self-centeredness,"which is my problem, my issues, my pain." But one of the easiest ways to get rid of pain is to get your focus off yourself and onto God and others.

We discovered quickly that in spite of the prayers of hundreds of thousands of people, God was not going to heal Kay or make it easy for her.

It has been very difficult for her, and yet God has strengthened her character, given her a ministry of helping other people, given her a testimony, drawn her closer to Him and to people.

You have to learn to deal with both the good and the bad of life.

Actually, sometimes learning to deal with the good is harder. For instance, this past year, all of a sudden, when the book sold 15 million copies, it made me instantly very wealthy.

It also brought a lot of notoriety that I had never had to deal with before. I don't think God gives you money or notoriety for your own ego or for you to live a life of ease.

So I began to ask God what He wanted me to do with this money, notoriety and influence. He gave me two different passages that helped me decide what to do, II Corinthians 9 and Psalm 72

First, in spite of all the money coming in, we would not change our lifestyle one bit. We made no major purchases.

Second, about midway through last year, I stopped taking a salary from the church.

Third, we set up foundations to fund an initiative we call The Peace Plan to plant churches, equip leaders, assist the poor, care for the sick, and educate the next generation.

Fourth, I added up all that the church had paid me in the 24 years since I started the church, and I gave it all back. It was liberating to be able to serve God for free.

We need to ask ourselves: Am I going to live for possessions? Popularity?

Am I going to be driven by pressures? Guilt? Bitterness? Materialism? Or am I going to be driven by God's purposes (for my life)?

When I get up in the morning, I sit on the side of my bed and say, God, if I don't get anything else done today, I want to know You more and love You better. God didn't put me on earth just to fulfill a to-do list. He's more interested in what I am than what I do.

That's why we're called human beings, not human doings.
Happy moments, PRAISE GOD.
Difficult moments, SEEK GOD.
Quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD.
Painful moments, TRUST GOD.
Every moment, THANK GOD.

YES, THEY CAN! - HOPE FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

Bronx students discuss Obama's race speech

From: BarackObamadotcom

Hi guys,
I came across this video and I was impressed by these students’ intense interest and views about politics in light of the Obama/Clinton race. What inspired me more was the hope and belief in the indomitable spirit of mankind and the American dream for all of its citizens.

This election has given me hope that King’s 40 year old prophetic dream that America will judge its citizens by their character and not their race or gender is about to be realized. Metaphysically 40 signifies completion. Remarkably, it is significant in Jewish, Christian, Islamic, and other Middle Eastern traditions; it can also represent a rough calculation, a huge sum of units, or simply put a lot of something:

-"Forty days and forty nights" describes the period for which rain fell during Noah's flood
-"Forty days" was the length of the period that the twelve spies explored the Promised Land
-"Forty years" was the length of Israel's wandering in the wilderness. This period of years represents a generation, that is, the time it takes for a new generation to arise.
-Moses' life is divided into three 40-year segments, separated by his fleeing from Egypt, and his return to lead the people out.
-Several Israelite leaders and kings are said to have ruled for "forty years", that is, a generation. (Examples: Eli, Saul, David, Solomon.)
-According to the Midrash, Moses spent three consecutive periods of "forty days and forty nights" on Mount Sinai.
-Rabbi Akiva, the greatest expositor of the Oral Torah, only began learning how to read Hebrew when he was 40 years old
-"Forty days and forty nights" was the period Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness, after which he was tempted by Satan.
-Forty days was the period from Jesus' resurrection till his ascension into heaven.
-In modern Christian practice, Lent consists of the 40 days preceding Easter. -The dead are usually mourned for forty days in Muslim cultures
-Muhammad is said to be forty years old when he first received the revelation delivered by an angel.
-In the Yazidi faith, The Chermera temple (meaning “40 Men” in the Yazidi dialect) is so old that no one remembers how it came to have that name but it is believed to derive from the burial of 40 men on the mountaintop site.
-In Hinduism, some popular religious prayers consist of forty shlokas or dohas (couplets, stanzas).

Finally after 40 years, or essentially a generation later, Dr. King’s dream is being realized. It seems pretty clear that America will have a female or an African American as president. Let us learn from this historical moment the importance of instilling in the next generation the importance of not only the American dream, but their individual dreams. Although it may take time for us to realize our dreams, we must never give up on a heartfelt dream that benefits mankind. Defeat is not an option- when we persist through adversity, we will be Winners at life!

13. Worst Salad
On the Border Grande Taco Salad with Taco Beef
1,450 calories 102 g fat 78 g carbs 2,410 mg sodium This isn't an anomaly: Five different On the Border salads on the menu contain more than 1,100 calories each. The Salad for You: The Sizzling Chicken Fajita Salad supplies an acceptable 760 calories. But remember to choose a noncaloric beverage, such as water or unsweetened iced tea.

Hello Guys,
Two days to go before the week is up. Have you decided what's for lunch already? Take a look at what's in this salad. Can you believe it- 1,450 calories? I understand why they call it "Grande"- it is a meal that can carry you all through the day and night, especially if you add a beverage to it.

There is a reason why Bill Cosby says, "come on people!" You do the math- guess where the calories go and stay? If you want to be a Winner at life you must learn how to add, subtract and say "no thanks" and move away from the table or bring your own lunch!

Let's start today by saying "no" to things that deplete our energy, weaken our immune system and leave us bloated and depressed. This monosyllabic word contains only two letters in the alphabet, but it will empower you to accomplish things in life that you never thought were possible. Saying "no" is the best way you can love yourself, because by doing so, you are saying you are entitled to a fulfilled and abundant life!
