An Interview With Rick Warren Author Of The Purpose Driven Life

Hi guys,
I want to share with you a candid interview with Rick Warren, the author of the "PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE" that was sent to me by a reader named Chandra. Rick Warren reflects on his wife’s bout with cancer and his response to his new "wealth" from the book sales. Let’s pray and declare healing in the name of Jesus for Mrs. Warren and comfort and strength for her husband who has given so much to others. The Word says that there “is nothing too hard for God and that with God all things are possible!”

Stay Blessed!
Joyce

In the interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren, author and pastor of Saddleback Church in California, Rick said:

People ask me, What is the purpose of life? And I respond: In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven.

One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body-- but not the end of me.

I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity. This is the warm-up act - the dress rehearsal. God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity.

We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn't going to make sense.

Life is a series of problems: Either you are in one now, you're just coming out of one, or you're getting ready to go into another one.

The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort.

God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy.

We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that's not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character, in Christ likeness.

This past year has been the greatest year of my life but also the toughest, with my wife, Kay, getting cancer.

I used to think that life was hills and valleys - you go through a dark time, then you go to the mountaintop, back and forth. I don't believe that anymore.

Rather than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it's kind of like two rails on a railroad track, and at all times you have something good and something bad in your life.

No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on.

And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for.

You can focus on your purposes, or you can focus on your problems.

If you focus on your problems, you're going into self-centeredness,"which is my problem, my issues, my pain." But one of the easiest ways to get rid of pain is to get your focus off yourself and onto God and others.

We discovered quickly that in spite of the prayers of hundreds of thousands of people, God was not going to heal Kay or make it easy for her.

It has been very difficult for her, and yet God has strengthened her character, given her a ministry of helping other people, given her a testimony, drawn her closer to Him and to people.

You have to learn to deal with both the good and the bad of life.

Actually, sometimes learning to deal with the good is harder. For instance, this past year, all of a sudden, when the book sold 15 million copies, it made me instantly very wealthy.

It also brought a lot of notoriety that I had never had to deal with before. I don't think God gives you money or notoriety for your own ego or for you to live a life of ease.

So I began to ask God what He wanted me to do with this money, notoriety and influence. He gave me two different passages that helped me decide what to do, II Corinthians 9 and Psalm 72

First, in spite of all the money coming in, we would not change our lifestyle one bit. We made no major purchases.

Second, about midway through last year, I stopped taking a salary from the church.

Third, we set up foundations to fund an initiative we call The Peace Plan to plant churches, equip leaders, assist the poor, care for the sick, and educate the next generation.

Fourth, I added up all that the church had paid me in the 24 years since I started the church, and I gave it all back. It was liberating to be able to serve God for free.

We need to ask ourselves: Am I going to live for possessions? Popularity?

Am I going to be driven by pressures? Guilt? Bitterness? Materialism? Or am I going to be driven by God's purposes (for my life)?

When I get up in the morning, I sit on the side of my bed and say, God, if I don't get anything else done today, I want to know You more and love You better. God didn't put me on earth just to fulfill a to-do list. He's more interested in what I am than what I do.

That's why we're called human beings, not human doings.
Happy moments, PRAISE GOD.
Difficult moments, SEEK GOD.
Quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD.
Painful moments, TRUST GOD.
Every moment, THANK GOD.

NOW. PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH YOUR FRIENDS

YES, THEY CAN! - HOPE FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

Bronx students discuss Obama's race speech

From: BarackObamadotcom

Hi guys,
I came across this video and I was impressed by these students’ intense interest and views about politics in light of the Obama/Clinton race. What inspired me more was the hope and belief in the indomitable spirit of mankind and the American dream for all of its citizens.

This election has given me hope that King’s 40 year old prophetic dream that America will judge its citizens by their character and not their race or gender is about to be realized. Metaphysically 40 signifies completion. Remarkably, it is significant in Jewish, Christian, Islamic, and other Middle Eastern traditions; it can also represent a rough calculation, a huge sum of units, or simply put a lot of something:

-"Forty days and forty nights" describes the period for which rain fell during Noah's flood
-"Forty days" was the length of the period that the twelve spies explored the Promised Land
-"Forty years" was the length of Israel's wandering in the wilderness. This period of years represents a generation, that is, the time it takes for a new generation to arise.
-Moses' life is divided into three 40-year segments, separated by his fleeing from Egypt, and his return to lead the people out.
-Several Israelite leaders and kings are said to have ruled for "forty years", that is, a generation. (Examples: Eli, Saul, David, Solomon.)
-According to the Midrash, Moses spent three consecutive periods of "forty days and forty nights" on Mount Sinai.
-Rabbi Akiva, the greatest expositor of the Oral Torah, only began learning how to read Hebrew when he was 40 years old
-"Forty days and forty nights" was the period Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness, after which he was tempted by Satan.
-Forty days was the period from Jesus' resurrection till his ascension into heaven.
-In modern Christian practice, Lent consists of the 40 days preceding Easter. -The dead are usually mourned for forty days in Muslim cultures
-Muhammad is said to be forty years old when he first received the revelation delivered by an angel.
-In the Yazidi faith, The Chermera temple (meaning “40 Men” in the Yazidi dialect) is so old that no one remembers how it came to have that name but it is believed to derive from the burial of 40 men on the mountaintop site.
-In Hinduism, some popular religious prayers consist of forty shlokas or dohas (couplets, stanzas).

Finally after 40 years, or essentially a generation later, Dr. King’s dream is being realized. It seems pretty clear that America will have a female or an African American as president. Let us learn from this historical moment the importance of instilling in the next generation the importance of not only the American dream, but their individual dreams. Although it may take time for us to realize our dreams, we must never give up on a heartfelt dream that benefits mankind. Defeat is not an option- when we persist through adversity, we will be Winners at life!

Stay Blessed!

Somewhere- We’ll Find A New Way Of Living

Somewhere with Anita Baker and David Koz (From: fasho305)

Perseverance is the name of the game. As you can see below, I love Anita Baker and when you add David Koz on the sax it is absolutely heavenly! Click on the link below to listen and enjoy as the two of them take you to a place that will lift you above the cares of this world. Their music and melody will inspire you to overcome whatever obstacles you may be facing today.

Tomorrow always offers the prospect that a rainbow will appear to cast out the storms and discouragements of the past. The key is to take one small step at a time if necessary and never, never, give up. You see the race is not given to the strong, but to those who persevere to the end.

The word persevere means “to persist in anything undertaken; maintain a purpose in spite of difficulty, obstacles, or discouragement; continue steadfastly.” By definition it means going through the severe times, the “mean” times in our life. Do you know what I like about life and God? It’s amazing that He would give us a rainbow right after the storm and before our desire has manifested to let us know that whatever we are going through,- that this too shall pass!

The race is not given to the swift either, so don’t give up- rest if you must, but don’t you quit! You see there is always a rainbow on the horizon that will cast its reflection and let you know all is well. As you continue to fight the good fight of faith in this vast universe, your time will eventually come, and you will be a Winner at life!

Stay Blessed!

This Too Shall Pass- “Ain’t No Need To Worry!”

This current real estate market is unlike any that has occurred in the last 50 years or more. I have good news though for my fellow real estate agents, loan officers and other service related professionals that feed off the real estate industry. This too shall pass! The question that arises is- what do I do in the meantime?

I have some suggestions as to what you can do in these "mean" times. This is what works for me and how and why I keep smiling:

1) Pray
2) Listen to songs like this one by Anita Baker & the Winans
3) Exercise
4) Find a job even if it is beneath you. (I did BPOs for a company and got paid $65 for each one. Every agent knows that this is no money, but it kept be busy and fought off depression. Out of the blue one day I got a call from a REO company that asked me to handle their REOs)
5) Sell or do anything legally that can make you money. Can you bake delicious cookies? Encourage and motivate children? Write newspaper articles? What untapped talents do you have that will allow you to make money?
6) Pray for supernatural intervention so that you can connect with someone that can elevate you to the next level. (I was blessed to find a buyer for a commercial building that allowed me to pay off all my debts and have money left over to weather this storm.)
7) Watch your expenses- bring your lunch, make lunch for your husband and kids, buy a whole chicken and bake it yourself. Use the leftovers for sandwiches.
8) Watch a funny movie and continue to count your blessings.

Until tomorrow, remember to keep smiling and continue to release those healthy endorphins to strengthen your immune system so that you can be a Winner at life!

Stay Blessed!

Keep Smiling- That's What Friends Are For!

That's What Friends Are For (from Bozang youtube.com)

TGIF guys,
We’ve made it through another week. Thank God we are alive and if you can see and read this blog or listen to the video below you are blessed. You could be in a hospital, prison or homeless, living under a bridge.

Let’s continue to keep smiling, believing the best and encouraging and challenging others to pursue and achieve their dreams. This is a daunting task to love through the good and bad times. It is said that a friend sticketh closer than a brother.

If you have one or two close friends you are doubly blessed. Why not call your friend(s) today and give them their roses while they can still smell them. Let your friends know that you love and appreciate them. Don’t be afraid to love- it’s love that makes the world go round.

If you don’t have any friends, then become the friend that you want others to be to you and I guarantee that you will keep smiling and you will be a Winner at life!

Stay Blessed!

How To Get To The Palace From Your Prison!

Hello guys,
It is a beautiful day in the neighborhood. My cholesterol is done and I am counting my blessings one by one. I am particularly excited about sharing with you the release of a powerful, life impacting, and motivational book. It is entitled, How To Get To The Palace From Your Prison! Joseph’s 14-Step Program to Overcome Loneliness, Depression, Discrimination, Barrenness & Abuse written by yours truly.

A synopsis of the book is as follows: “The Biblical story of Joseph is used to uncover a 14-Step Recovery Plan to overcome loneliness, depression, discrimination, barrenness and abuse. The author’s spiritual and psychological analysis of Joseph’s trials, tribulations, and triumphs reveals to the reader how to achieve the promises of God and arrive at that place of shalom, the Hebrew word for peace. Farrar-Rosemon defines the word to mean “nothing missing and nothing broken” in the reader’s life.

The author draws on her background as a broker and psychiatric social worker and shares how her personal tragedies and those of other individuals and groups were resolved using this 14-Step Program. This book details statistics on depression, unemployment, abuse, addictions, miscarriage, abortion, HIV/AIDS, discrimination and other timely social and psychological ills. The Appendix contains national toll-free 800 resource numbers for individuals and groups to connect with so that they can begin the healing process.” For a free preview click on, How To Get To The Palace From Your Prison!
Remember it’s important that you don’t let others define who you are and what you can become. Stir up the gifts and talents that God has placed in you. Encourage yourself when no one else will. You have been fearfully and wonderfully made and it is the Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. He wants to make you a Winner at life!

Stay Blessed!

Count Your Blessings And Lower Your Cholesterol

The refrain of a popular gospel song contains the words, “count your blessings, name them one by one…” I found an updated version below with the same old fashioned message. This song came to mind as I received my doctor’s report that my cholesterol level was under 200.

Yes, payday has finally arrived. My steady regimen of exercising 30 minutes a day, eating low-fat meals has paid off and has caused me to reap a harvest of good health. There’s no price you can put on your health. If you don’t believe me ask the millionaire with a diagnosis of terminal cancer which would he prefer- another million dollars or the restitution of his health?

I do believe in counting my blessings and naming them one by one to see what God has done in my life. Why don’t you try the power of praise in your life? Not only is laughter good medicine for the soul, but so is a spirit of optimism and praise. An article by the Ririan project lists 10 benefits of laughter.

Included in the research were findings that state that there is a link between optimistic attitudes and good health. Overall, scientists found that optimistic people are healthier. Their biological makeup is different and they have a more robust immune system.

In the same article, the writer reports that according to some recent research published in the Archives of General Psychiatry, elderly optimistic people were 71 percent less likely to die than the pessimists!

So my friends if you want to live longer learn how to smile and see the glass of life as half full rather than half empty. When you do this, you will become a Winner at life!

Stay Blessed!

Don’t Give Up On Your Dream!

TGIF guys!

As we come to the close of this fourth week in January 2008, I hope your year has gotten off to a great start. I trust you have been working on your goals and dreams for 2008. If you have been following my blog, you know that the end of this week is a beginning of a new day. It’s an opportunity to enjoy life, count your blessings, and realize that you are four weeks closer to your dream.

If you have already experienced some challenges this year, you are learning how to turn your lemons into lemonade. You are learning how to take if necessary, small, but significant steps towards your dream. Defeat is not in your vocabulary because you were created to be the Head and not the tail. You are learning as well to love yourself which means taking proper care of your body temple- exercising, eating right and getting the proper amount of rest.

Right now I want you to steal away to a secret place and give yourself a big hug. Tell yourself that you are loved, wonderfully, and fearfully made in the image and likeness of God. This is the truth about you- God did not make any junk. He loves you and his promise is to never leave or forsake you.

Take a deep breath and let it out. Practice relaxing and as you let your breath out release to God the burdens that are too great for you to bear. He wants to be those unseen footprints in the sands of your life, but you must invite Him in. When you do this, then you will overcome as others have done and He will make you a Winner at life!

Stay Blessed!

Dream Big And Take The First Step!

Often the hardest step to achieving your dream is the first step. Success is a journey that is composed of failed attempts by someone or a group that refuses to give up. Yes, to succeed at your dream you must have an undying passion and commitment to accomplish your goal.

You are what you think. You attract into your life what you think you are deserving of. Once you decide in your mind what you want, you must unwaveringly and consciously choose to reject anything that does not line up with the fulfillment of your dream.

If your goal this year is to become alcohol free, then you of course don’t want to hang out in a singles bar. Likewise, if you want to finish college, you can’t party every weekend and choose cramming as a method of studying for your finals.

Typically what prevents us from achieving our goals is an unwillingness to sacrifice, endure pain or practice self-denial. When you get serious about your dream and take the necessary steps, the universe will respond and you will draw into your life the components that are necessary to make your dream a reality. Click on the link below and meditate on how you can start attracting into your life the desires of your heart. Once you take these, even if they are small baby steps, you will become a Winner at life!

What Is Your Impossible Dream?

Now is the time to make your dream a reality! You must do it now, even if you have to do it afraid. The question is not will I succeed, but can I dare to do it afraid, penniless, alone or with no support? Is your dream of a nature that it will benefit mankind and bring some good into the world for all humanity? If you answered yes, then do something today to actualize your dreams and the forces of nature and creativity will meet you at your door and propel you toward the fulfillment of your dream.

You see as you start to plant good seeds into the soil of life, you can only reap a good harvest. Just as there are physical laws, there are irrefutable spiritual laws that have no choice but to work in your favor. Yes, there will be weeds along the way that you will have to pull and destroy. The Word says that the wheat and the tares must go up together. There is nothing you can do about this, but learn how to coexist and stay true to your identity.

God is not a respecter of person, He has given everyone gifts and talents. It worked for Helen Keller, Dr. King, Tiger Woods, Oprah, Harriet Tubman, Mother Teresa and many others. And guess what it even worked for little oh me and propelled me from Boston’s inner city housing project steps to greatness! Click on the link below and listen to how you too can be a Winner at life if you start today!

Stay Blessed!

The Value Of Time

Good Morning guys,
It rained last night in Georgia and I am grateful to God for that. Do you ever wonder where the rain comes from? Ask a 5th grader about the rain cycle and you will be amazed. Sorry for digressing, but I just had to talk about the rain last night. It was wonderful to hear it, very calming, reassuring- like being rocked in a cradle. God is good!

I want to share with you a poem called, “The Value of Time” that was forwarded to me. As we reflect on what this year has brought us, let us begin to focus and plan to make 2008 our best year yet. Please continue to send me your thoughts, poems, questions, articles, etc. and if appropriate, I will post them. Let’s work together so that we all can be Winners at life!

Stay Blessed!

The Value of Time
To realize
The value of a sister
Ask someone
Who doesn't have one.

To realize
The value of 10 years:
Ask a newly Divorced couple.

To realize
The value of 4 years:
Ask a graduate.

To realize
The value of 1 year:
Ask a student who Has failed a final exam.

To realize
The value of 9 months:
Ask a mother who gave birth to a stillborn.

To realize
The value of 1 month:
Ask a mother who has given birth to
A premature baby.

To realize
The value of 1 week:
Ask an editor of a weekly newspaper.

To realize
The value of 1 minute:
Ask a person
Who has missed the train, bus or plane.

To realize
The value of 1 second:
Ask a person Who has survived an accident.

Time waits for no one.
Treasure every moment you have.
You will treasure it even more when you can share it with someone special.

To realize the value of a friend or family member:
LOSE ONE.

The origin of this letter is unknown,
But it brings good luck to everyone who passes it on.

What Helen Keller Saw And Heard Without Any Eyes Or Ears

Hello my friends,
I want to share with you a poem written by Helen Keller, affectionately called the First Lady of Courage:

They took away what should have been my eyes
(But I remembered Milton's Paradise).
They took away what should have been my ears,
(Beethoven came and wiped away my tears).
They took away what should have been my tongue,
(But I had talked with God when I was young).
He would not let them take away my soul –
Possessing that, I still possess the whole. [1]

I am so impressed by this woman who in spite of tremendous obstacles and disadvantages was able to graduate from Harvard’s sister school, Radcliff College. Ms. Keller spent her adult life drawing awareness to the blind and deaf community. She traveled to 30 different countries to demonstrate that blind and deaf people could still function in society. She became one of the world’s leading women. The last public appearance she made was in 1961 at a Lion's meeting. She was presented with an award for her service to humanity over her life.

Helen Keller received many awards during the course of her life. Among them the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Brazil's Order of the Southern Cross, the Philippines' Golden Heart, Japan's Sacred Treasure, and in 1991, was named one of the most important people of the twentieth century by Life magazine.

Ladies and Gents, I think it is time for us to rise up and realize the greatness that is in us! Let’s work together to support and encourage one another to make our dreams become a reality. We have been given the gift of life, which is a miracle in and of itself. Let’s begin to search our soul and learn from mentors like Helen Keller and the “Wise Old Man” (see "Happiness Is Something I Choose In Advance" entry) how we can achieve happiness in spite of any real or perceived disabilities.

Helen Keller’s childhood dream was to attend and graduate from college. What’s yours? The new year, 2008 is right around the corner- have you written your vision, your business plan? Do you remember how we anxiously waited for the year 2000? How did seven years go by so quickly? Time waits for no one. Proverbs 29:18 instructs us that, “Where there is no vision, the people perish…” I guarantee you that if you start today and refuse to give up, you can be a Winner at life!

Stay Blessed!

What Have You Done For Someone Lately?

Good morning guys!
I have some questions to pose. What random act of kindness have you done to keep someone’s feet off the ground? How can we make this last month of 2007 special for someone else? I invite you to write and tell me your answers and suggestions. What are your New Year’s resolutions- lose weight, go back to school, or get a job? Let me hear from you about creative ways to make 2008 your best year yet.

Guess what if we don’t have a vision and act on it daily we could possibly waste the opportunity to make 2008 our best year ever. Let’s embrace the gift of life we have and challenge ourselves to persevere in spite of any real or perceived enemies. Habakkuk 2:2-3 says, “…write the vision and make it plain…that he may run that readeth it, for the vision is yet for an appointed time, but in the end it shall speak and not lie...”

So my friends, if you start now and write your vision, your business plan for 2008, you can be the early bird that catches the worm. You see, life is like running a race. You must condition not only your mind, but your body and emotions. As you head towards your vision, be prepared to walk some, run some and climb the Heartbreak Hills that you will encounter on the way. If there is no pain, there is no serious gain!

The gains I’m talking about come to determined individuals like Madame C.J. Walker, Michael Jordan, Helen Keller, and Mahatma Gandhi. These are victorious overcomers that had a vision and honed their skills night and day while others were taking it easy. Decide today what your legacy will be and do it afraid if necessary. But you must take the first step and write it down on paper and in your heart.

My vision is to develop this site as a resource center to help others get their feet off the ground. My passion is to help individuals be the best they can be. Help me to help others by writing in with your suggestions. I’m waiting to hear from you. Remember you can be a Winner at life!

Stay Blessed!

How Do You Handle Monday Mornings?

Mondays mornings can be difficult for many people. For some it may be because they worked the previous weekend and are not fully rested. For others it may signal the end of fun and frolic and now it’s time to get back to their “J- O- B.” If you find it hard to get up on Mondays, make a decision to change your thoughts, attitude and most important your destiny. Statistics show that more people commit suicide or fall sick on Sunday than on any other day. Could it be that they dreaded getting back to a job that they felt was not fully utilizing their talents or was low paying?

You were created to be a winner! As we approach the end of 2007 and the beginning of a new year, let’s make a commitment together that 2008 will be our best year yet. In spite of what the media says about the economy, employment opportunities, the environment, let’s make a pack that we will work together to find new opportunities, relationships, partnerships so that we can be the cream that rises to the top. Let’s strive to be like Madame C. J. Walker who became a millionaire during the Depression.

I need to hear from you. Send me a blog and tell me what your concerns are and together we will find a solution. I invite my readers to use this platform to share with other readers what has and has not worked for you. There is strength in unity! Help me to help others rise to the top. Let’s spread the word- please forward this blog to someone who needs to know that they are loved!

You can be a Winner at life- Stay Blessed!

Defeat Is Not An Option!

Defeat is not an option! You have been created to be the Head and not the Tail! Regardless of what adversities you face in life, as long as you have breath in your body, there is hope. If your flesh is cut, your body will immediately discharge cells to heal that part of your body that has been violated. Likewise in the spirit realm if your emotions have been hurt, your spiritual DNA will seek to bring peace to your inner being.

This blog is designed to help you find that inner peace, to learn how to trigger your spiritual cells so that the wholeness that you had in the beginning is restored. Let’s journey together so that we can arrive at that place of shalom (peace) in our mind, body and spirit.

As we go along I will share with you useful information on how to obtain inner peace in spite of where you find yourself in life- in a house all alone, prison, difficult marriage, unemployed, underemployed, poverty stricken or in a board meeting.

You have been fearfully and wonderfully made to be a Winner at life!

Stay Blessed!
